General Practice Nurses: GPN-SURGERY-BROOKVALE See Job Description

LOCATION: Brookvale

STATE: New South Wales


SALARY: 53,900 - 62,900 AUD / Year plus Super annuation. Full-time (38 hours a week)

Nurse Required as Registered Nurse (Surgery)

To be member of the Day Surgery Staff ensuring a safe and high quality delivery of care using the resources that are available in the fields of anesthetic nursing / scouting/ scrubbing and recovery room procedures.

To work within the Ethics and Code of Practice of the Nursing Profession as outlined in the documents produced by the Australian Nursing Council

To hold and maintain current working with children clearance.

Pay attention to cost effectiveness by utilising resources effectively

Report any equipment faults or problems, near misses to the Director of Nursing and/or WHS Representative

Attend compulsory in-service education programs including CPR, Fire Safety and evacuation and manual handling, Medication Safety, and others as per the day surgery training schedule.

Commitment to ongoing professional development by attending and participating in education sessions provided by Day Surgery

Participate in orientation of new staff and Visiting Medical Officers

Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings

Ensure accurate reporting of near misses and incidents to the Director of Nursing in accordance with the incident management policy.

Be familiar with the WHS Policies and manuals on company intranet e.g. Infection Control, Manual Handling, Needle stick Injury, Glutaraldehyde, Fire, Incident & Accident reporting and Risk Identification as per WHS manuals and company intranet.

Practice safe work practices as outlined in the Day Surgery’s Policies

Fulfil the designated functions on the daily duty list e.g. scout, scrub or recovery room nurse

Participate in the Quality Improvement Program, audit schedule activities and Accreditation process

To be aware of emergency procedures such as fire, cardiac arrest, electrical failure, etc.

Report to Director of Nursing or RN in charge any shortage of medical or general supplies

Ensure the infection control guidelines as outlined in the NSW Health Department Infection Control Policy and HICMR are adhered to at all times

Responsible for accurate documentation of patients’ records in accordance with Day Surgery policies, including the Medical Records Documentation policy.

In the absence of the CSSD Technician, ensure that all instruments and the anaesthetic equipment are properly cleaned and sterilised.

Be familiar with the contents of the emergency trolley and check its contents when allocated on the daily duty list

Check incoming deliveries and give invoices to the Director of Nursing

Attend to the Cleaning and Duty Schedule.

Answer telephone, take messages and deliver them to the appropriate persons when required.

Be familiar with all equipment and use in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.  Seek help if unsure about a piece of equipment

Attend to other duties as allocated by the Director of Nursing
